Rethinking mobility and urban futures in a resource-constrained world

Yoshitsugu Hayashi's life’s work is a reminder that infrastructure is about people and not just systems. He’s helped cities like Bangkok transform through rail systems and he’s pushing for “smart growth” and “smart shrink” to protect lives and improve daily commutes.

His work shows how transport can reduce risk and restore dignity. As president of the Japanese Association of The Club of Rome, he blends science with culture, using judo and anime to spark dialogue across Asia and the world.

He spoke to communications fellow Yvonne Wambua about his journey with the Club of Rome and how mobility, equity and imagination can shape a better future.
